I'm leaving on a Jet Plane....then a Boat!

As of 3:30 yesterday I was officially on spring break (definite perk of being a teacher)!  Tomorrow I fly to Miami, meet up with a few of my friends from college, and on Monday we board a cruise ship bound for the Bahamas!

One thing I have been fretting over the most is packing.  I refuse to pay $50 to check a bag so I was determined to fit everything I needed into a carry-on.  I am kind of a natorious over packer...but I like options.  Luckily, I found this awesome link on Pinterest that taught me a fabulous trick. ROLL your clothes!  Totally worked!  In my carry-on I have:
8 dresses (including 1 Maxi)
6 tank tops
3 t-shirts
1 skirt
1 pair of shorts
leggings
2 sets of PJs
3 swimsuits
Underwear
2 scarves
1 belt
2 pairs of Sandals
1 pair of heels
jewelry
non-liquid toiletries

Not bad, not bad....

See you all in a week with, hopefully, lots of good pictures to share!

Sonic Date Night

Spring has sprung here in WI...about a month early!  To celebrate the warmer freakishly summer like weather Jesse and I went on a Sonic Drive-In Date a la Groupon.  I absolutely love Groupon for trying new places.  For $10 we got 2 combo meals (sandwich, fries or tater tots, and a drink), an appetizer (we choose mozzarella sticks that were amazing), and a banana split (that I ate all by myself because Fisch doesn't like ice cream).  So much food and so much fun getting the food from servers on roller skates! Definitely not on my cruise diet plan (P.S. I am going on a cruise with a couple friends in 3 days!!) but oh well :)

Wordless Wednesday: Just another reason why I love my job...

By one of my lil kindergarten boys

"Sure, you can draw your self portrait riding on a unicorn on top of a rainbow."
How many people get to say that at work?

Somethin' Fishy

5th Grade Recycled Bottle Fish
3rd Grade Mermaids and Men
4th Grade Scratch Art Fish Skeletons
5k Fish Prints

2nd Grade Matisse inspired Fish Bowls

Private School Collaboration
4th Grade Self Portrait with a Fish
1st Grade Glue Batik Fish
Last week the district Youth Art Month opened in conjunction with the adult Somethin' Fishy Show.  To keep with the theme all the student artwork was "fishy" as well.  Every child in the district, from 5k-8th grade had a piece of art in the show.  Getting it all put together was stressful and involved many unpaid hours of organizing, labeling, and hanging artwork but it was all worth it to see the excitement and joy the kids got from showing off their artwork and witnessing the appreciation and amazement of the parents of what their child created.

I love my job :)

Wordless(ish) Wednesday: First Day Over 50 Degrees

Yesterday was the first day we have had over 50 degrees since December. It was sunny, people were outside for the first time all winter, kids were wearing shorts! It felt like spring and smelled like spring and gave all the people of WI hope that Spring may actually be around the corner...you know, after a few more snow storms.

Wine Before Noon...and After

On Saturday, Fisch and I went with some friends to the Wollersheim Winery open house.  We had been there before this Fall with my family for the tour.  The open house was pretty awesome because it included cooking demos, a self guided tour, and samples all for free!  Of course we ended up buying a couple bottles of wine and lunch but still a pretty reasonable afternoon.

I am just still so impressed with all the cool places and beautiful scenery that surrounds us here in Madison.

Creative cooking inspired by Pintrest

As is what seems like everyone else in the world, I am addicted to Pintrest.  And yes I am guilty of pinning a thousand and one DIY projects and not attempting a single one to date.  I have however tried out a few recipes and was inspired to create one of my own. Didn't actually set out to do this but it was one of those nights where nothing was planned and the fridge had a random array of things that needed to be used up and I had just been on Pintrest for an hour.  And so I threw together these Buffalo Chicken Crescent Rolls.
Quite easy and delicious!
Ingredients:
Crescent Roll Dough
3 Cooked and Shredded Chicken Breasts
Shredded cheese
Diced celery
Tony's Hot Sauce

Steps:
  1. Put a little of each ingredient in the middle of crescent roll.
  2. Roll up.
  3. Repeat 7 times.
  4. Bake for approx. 15 minutes (or whatever it says on the package)
  5. Serve with ranch/ blue cheese dipping sauce
  6. Eat.
  7. Enjoy.

Epic Sledding

Last weekend our friends Jenny and Steve, originally seen here, came down for a night in Madtown.  We took them sledding at Elver park.  We lucked out and actually got about 4 inches of snow on Friday, which made for perfect sledding conditions! And out sleds didn't break this time! It was, dare I say, legand...wait for it...dary!
