Things We Did This Weekend...

- Entertained Fisch's old roommates who came to town Friday night. Which included happy hour at Pisan's, Das Boot at Essen Haus, exploring State St., and even a ride on the cow at State St. Brats...which is apparently frowned upon...

- I took a belly dance class with my friend Alicia.  Don't think professional belly dance is in our future but it was fun!

-Alicia and I then did some browsing...and eating at the Capitol Farmers Market

-Took a nap.

-Went to see "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" at the budget theater.  Fisch and I agreed we were happy we only paid $6.  The blue raspberry icee and popcorn was delicious, though.

-Cozied up with some blankets and pillows in the back of Fisch's truck on a random country road to watch the meteor shower.

-Fisch fixed my car for the umpteenth time.

- Enjoyed the closing ceremonies of the Olympics...what are we going to do with our time now?!

What did you do this weekend?? :)

Worldly Words of Love

I am so excited to start a new weekly post here on McFisch in Madtown: Worldly Words of Love!
Last week at Fisch and my engagement party, my well traveled, cousin/maid of honor, Maren, presented us with an envelope and a postcard.
Inside the envelope were postcards from friends, family, and, like she said, strangers from around the world full of advice from our upcoming marriage and life together.  I don't know how I am going to get through our wedding day because I almost started crying right there.  Apparently this project had been in the works for awhile as some of the cards were posted months ago...though some had been added that very day without us noticing a thing!
Fisch and I haven't read them all yet, wanting to savor the sweetness of all these wonderful words of advice but as we do I thought is would be fun to post some of them and share the advice with all.
Some are funny, some are sweet, but all are wise words of advice. Check back next week for the first post!

One Year Together in Madtown

Last week marked one year since I moved to Madison to be with Fisch and the start of this new chapter of our life together.  It seems as though the year flew by but I suppose that's how every year feels when you look back at it.  A lot has happened in the last year, though.

When I moved to Madison last year I did not have a job or any close friends in the area.  I kind of knew my way around from visiting but not very well.  And Fisch and I were still just boyfriend/girlfriend.

Twenty-two days after moving here I got my first full time teaching job.  A week later, school started and I was thrown into the craziness of being a new teacher traveling to three schools in an area to which I was just introduced.  Trying to learn my 300+ students and 100+ colleagues names, a new curriculum, and my way around the district was overwhelming to say the least.  Fisch was there for me though and reassured me that by October I would be comfortable with my new postition.  He was right.

Along with my new job came new friends, the other new teachers who I bonded with over new surroundings and the other art teachers in the district who became my mentors as well as friends.

Even though I was always partial to Milwaukee, having lived in the city for 5 years and in the area most of my life, I have fallen for Madison and the surrouding areas.  I love that we are so close to any resturant, store, or entertainmet we could ever need or want but we can still walk across the street and hike in a wooded park (as seen in the picture above), drive 10 minutes and be in the rolling hills of the country, or 40 minutes to enjoy one of our favorite state parks.

A year ago I was unsure if I had made the right decision moving to a brandnew city, to be with my boyfriend, before we had made anything official, and before I even had a job lined up.  I realize now that I chose the right path, made the right decision and have just had one of the best years of my life.

1 Fisch, 2 Fisch...

There will officially be 2 Fisch on this blog in the future.
That's right, after almost 6 years together the question was popped...

... and the answer was yes!

More details to come :)

Fill in the Blank Friday..on Saturday

 (Linking up with Lauren!)
1.  The love of my life is   Fisch.

2.   Falling in love is   a gradual process. It's something that continues happening throughout a relationship and over time you fall even deeper in love...if you put in the effort that is (Not gonna lie, this is Lauren's answer but I totally agree and couldn't have said it any better).

3.  Marriage is   something I would like to happen in the future, near future, for Fisch and me.

4. The longest relationship I've ever had was  5 years 5 months and 14 days (w/ Fisch).

5. The key to a good relationship is  laughing a lot and remembering it's the little things that really show the love.

6. I feel loved when   someone does something specifically for me because they know I will love it.

7.  My favorite quote about love is   "We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.( Feel this one describes Fisch and me quite well. We are weird.) santiz

Our Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day Involved....
  • Heart Shaped "Eggs in a Basket" Breakfast in bed for Fisch.
  • A surprise bouquet of flowers in my car when I left for work.
  • Tons of Valentines from my kiddos (remember how exciting V-day was when you were a kid?)
  • And a picnic dinner of steak and wine in front of the fire while watching New Girl and "The Notebook"(Fisch's suggestion, not mine :)
Overall I would say a pretty great Valentine's Day!

P.S. I would have taken a picture of my present to Fisch, framed maps of where we have lived, but Penny already managed to spill wine all over it and now I have to re-mat one of them. Naughty Kitty.

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day!

I'm a big believer in sending snail mail.  Every year I send handmade Valentines to my best friends.  Usually they are the more traditional, gaudy doily and glitter creations.  This year I went a different route. I think they turned out ok :)

And here, for all you, is Zooey Deschanel's hilarious song about Valentines day.  Cracked up when I saw it on SNL Saturday.

Art Night Est. 2-2-12

Being an art teacher you would think that I would get to make lots of art.  I do but it's usually just examples for my lessons.  I rarely make my own which is something I would like to start doing again.  Fisch expressed interest in touching up some of his old stuff as well as maybe starting a new project....which is why we finally established Art Night!

Tonight's activity, blind contour drawing!  One of my favorite exercises from drawing class. You draw something/somebody with one continuous line and without looking.  It teaches your eye and hand to work together.  The drawings usually turn out pretty hilarious.

Fisch was getting frustrated with not being able to look at his drawing so he started a real portrait of me.  If you look closely you can see it behind his contour drawing of me :)
