W(ish)W: The Lake Geneva Mail Boat

Last weekend my Dad, Sis, and I went on the Mail Boat tour around Lake Geneva.  It's one of those touristy things I have always wanted to do but haven't gotten around to until now.

Lake Geneva is one of the only lakes that still delivers mail by boat.  They have "mail jumpers" who literally jump off the front of the boat, run to the mail box on the dock, and run and jump back on the back of the boat before it passes and they fall in :-/

So much fun!

W(ish)W: Wedding Photography

The great thing about being a teacher is that during the summer you get to dabble in your other hobbies.  For me, this summer, it was wedding photography.  I photographed my 2nd and 3rd weddings.  This is one of my favorites of the two little girls who were already best friends and then became step sisters in the last wedding I shot.

W(ish)W: Grandma Mc

These are some of my favorite pictures of my Grandma from when she was younger.

She is going to turn 90 in October (she would yell at me for telling you that even though we tell her it's something to be proud of) and personally I think she is just as beautiful as she was back then.

Trying new things...

I have a list of things to try when I get bored.
Yesterday it was hair chalking.  I saw it on Pinterest...of course.  Basically, you just take a chalk pastel, wet your hair (or the pastel which works better I found) and color a chunk of your hair.
Kind of fun :)

Things We Did This Weekend...

- Entertained Fisch's old roommates who came to town Friday night. Which included happy hour at Pisan's, Das Boot at Essen Haus, exploring State St., and even a ride on the cow at State St. Brats...which is apparently frowned upon...

- I took a belly dance class with my friend Alicia.  Don't think professional belly dance is in our future but it was fun!

-Alicia and I then did some browsing...and eating at the Capitol Farmers Market

-Took a nap.

-Went to see "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" at the budget theater.  Fisch and I agreed we were happy we only paid $6.  The blue raspberry icee and popcorn was delicious, though.

-Cozied up with some blankets and pillows in the back of Fisch's truck on a random country road to watch the meteor shower.

-Fisch fixed my car for the umpteenth time.

- Enjoyed the closing ceremonies of the Olympics...what are we going to do with our time now?!

What did you do this weekend?? :)

My big accomplishment of the day...

...wasn't such a big accomplishment.
It was, though, a very delicious accomplishment.
I'm sure a lot of you have seen this recipe for
"Banoffee 'Danger' Pie" floating around on Pinterest.
I decided a lazy Sunday was the perfect time to try it.
I have to say I am very glad I did.
This pie is flippin' delicious and super easy to make...
especially if you use store bought crust and whipped cream
like I did :)
Ingredients
2-3 bananas
1 tin of sweetened condensed milk
whipped cream/ cool whip
  graham cracker pie crust
pecans (my addition which turned out to be delicious)

1. Remove label and submerge can of sweetened condensed milk in pot of water.  Boil, covered, for 2 1/2 hours.
*Make sure the can stays covered with water!!*
Take out and let cool.
You have now made delicious toffee!!!

2.  Slice bananas and layer in the crust.  Add pecans if you want.

3. Open toffee can, mix with knife until smooth, pour on bananas.
4. Spread whipped cream over the pie.

5. Refrigerate for an hour... if you can wait that long.

Enjoy!

Fill in the Blank Friday

Linking up with Lauren!

1.  The age I will be on my upcoming birthday is   27... in 11 months at 2 days.

2.   The best birthday present ever would be   a surprise vacation somewhere, all planned out and all I had to do was go and enjoy  .

3.  My favorite birthday to date was   ...hmmm... I have had many great birthdays from the big joint family parties with my cousin, Maren, when I was little to the time on my 16th birthday when I came home to find my friends had decorated my yard with tons of signs, yard ornaments, and a "barrowed" tash can. I would have to say one of my favorites, though, was my 22 birthday when Fisch and I started the tradtion of a camping trip with friends and a tube ride down a river.

4. Birthdays make me feel    nostalgic. I think of how the past year flew by and all the other great years I have had.

5. The worst birthday I ever had was   ...again hard to say since I have had so may great birthdays.  I guess I would have to say my 20th birthday when I was living at home and none of my friends were in town and my ex boyfriend and I had officially called it quits.  It turned out to be a great birthday, though, because I remember talking to Fisch that night online and thats when he invited me to hang out for the first time... so maybe that was my best birthday afterall?

6. When I was born  I had to be pulled out with a clamp.  I swear I still have dents in my head from the experience.  I was 8 lbs, 21 in. It was Saturday July 12, 1986 at 10:30 and my mom said just as I was born she heard the Saturday Night Live theme song come on.

7.  So far my favorite age has been   19.  It was sophomore year of college, I was living with girls who became my best friends, I had finally come out of my shell, and it was the year I met Fisch (though we didn't start dating until I was 20 ;) .

Worldly Words of Love

I am so excited to start a new weekly post here on McFisch in Madtown: Worldly Words of Love!
Last week at Fisch and my engagement party, my well traveled, cousin/maid of honor, Maren, presented us with an envelope and a postcard.
Inside the envelope were postcards from friends, family, and, like she said, strangers from around the world full of advice from our upcoming marriage and life together.  I don't know how I am going to get through our wedding day because I almost started crying right there.  Apparently this project had been in the works for awhile as some of the cards were posted months ago...though some had been added that very day without us noticing a thing!
Fisch and I haven't read them all yet, wanting to savor the sweetness of all these wonderful words of advice but as we do I thought is would be fun to post some of them and share the advice with all.
Some are funny, some are sweet, but all are wise words of advice. Check back next week for the first post!

One Year Together in Madtown

Last week marked one year since I moved to Madison to be with Fisch and the start of this new chapter of our life together.  It seems as though the year flew by but I suppose that's how every year feels when you look back at it.  A lot has happened in the last year, though.

When I moved to Madison last year I did not have a job or any close friends in the area.  I kind of knew my way around from visiting but not very well.  And Fisch and I were still just boyfriend/girlfriend.

Twenty-two days after moving here I got my first full time teaching job.  A week later, school started and I was thrown into the craziness of being a new teacher traveling to three schools in an area to which I was just introduced.  Trying to learn my 300+ students and 100+ colleagues names, a new curriculum, and my way around the district was overwhelming to say the least.  Fisch was there for me though and reassured me that by October I would be comfortable with my new postition.  He was right.

Along with my new job came new friends, the other new teachers who I bonded with over new surroundings and the other art teachers in the district who became my mentors as well as friends.

Even though I was always partial to Milwaukee, having lived in the city for 5 years and in the area most of my life, I have fallen for Madison and the surrouding areas.  I love that we are so close to any resturant, store, or entertainmet we could ever need or want but we can still walk across the street and hike in a wooded park (as seen in the picture above), drive 10 minutes and be in the rolling hills of the country, or 40 minutes to enjoy one of our favorite state parks.

A year ago I was unsure if I had made the right decision moving to a brandnew city, to be with my boyfriend, before we had made anything official, and before I even had a job lined up.  I realize now that I chose the right path, made the right decision and have just had one of the best years of my life.
